Why Join Us?
A warm welcome to St. Edward’s Catholic Primary School. We are a very happy and harmonious community where parents, teachers, teaching assistants and governors work together to achieve the best for our children. We pride ourselves on being a small, nurturing school that focuses on the development of the whole child and we are committed to doing our utmost to ensure the highest quality of education for all our pupils.
St. Edward’s was originally under the trusteeship of the Sisters of Mercy, who founded the school in 1864. We maintain strong links with our local parish churches, Church of Our Lady (St. John’s Wood) and Church of Our Lady of the Rosary (Marylebone) and Westminster Diocese. We positively welcome applications from children and parents of other faiths or none, who want to share our ethos. As a Catholic community the values of the Gospel and the teachings of Jesus Christ are at the heart of all we do. Religious Education takes a high priority in our curriculum and we use the programme called ‘The Way, The Truth and The Life’ to teach religion. We also help our children to learn about other Faiths and encourage them to grow in their religious literacy and understanding.
Our new partnership with St George’s School and the Cardinal Hume Academies Trust is enabling us to do more. Our new ICT suite is giving opportunities for children to develop their computer skills and our new library has lots of interesting books to help stimulate a love of reading.
Our curriculum is broad and balanced, giving opportunities for first-hand learning experiences. We strive to take advantage of our capital City and recently children have been on many outings to places including the Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, The London Museum, the Royal Albert Hall, The Liberal Jewish Synagogue, St John’s Wood to name but a few. Each year, Year 6 pupils have a residential trip. Sayers Croft is a beautiful, safe site with 56 acres of woodlands, meadows, ponds and fields and has been providing quality outdoor experiences for young people for many years. These are just a few of the trips, workshops and sporting and cultural opportunities offered to our pupils.
